My Handmade Wedding Invitation Business, How To Start One

My Handmade Wedding Invitation Business, How To Start One

Everybody always wants to know how I set up my handmade wedding invitation business. It wasn’t all that difficult really. Anybody could do it. All you need is a little artistic ability and an imagination. And with all the neat stuff they have in the craft shops now, you don’t really even have to have that.

Have you seen all the beautiful papers they have out now. When I first started out you had your choice of white, ecru, and maybe a few pastel colors. And if you wanted them to have any kind of floral design or pattern on them, you had to do it yourself. But when it comes to wedding invitations, you have to be very precise and exact. Nobody wants a paint spattered wedding invitation and the more “store bought” they look the better. Even though it’s an original design, it still has to look professional.

But now you can get all kinds of beautiful papers. Floral patterns and stripes and polka dots. And some of the most breathtaking colors, too. Those days of peach or lavender are long gone!

Another thing that’s helped in my design business is the increasing popularity of scrapbookking. With so many people turning to this as a hobby now, the manufacturers who create those products have created hundreds and hundreds of embellishments for those scrapbooks that are just perfect for wedding invitations and stationery.

No matter what theme the bridal party is looking for, you can find something useful in the scrapbookking aisle at your local craft store. I had someone ask me for a beach theme for their wedding stationery a few weeks ago and I found the most beautiful embellishments at the craft shop. They had these little pearlized seashells that matched perfectly with this muted seashell pattern paper that they had. I also found a lovely sand colored paper to use for inserts and finished it all of with a natural raffia bow. They were gorgeous! And the bride loved them!

Computers have helped a lot, too. Years ago, when I first started out, my only option for the lettering on my invitations was calligraphy. Can you imagine?! Hand lettering an invitation is a very time consuming process, even when you know what you’re doing. But now, I can let the bride sit right beside me as we choose the font styles for her invitations and I can even print our samples for her to help her decide. And in the blink of an eye, I can print out all of the inserts I need without ever lifting my calligraphy pen.

Of course, I make sure to make an extra of all of my invitations so I can put them in my portfolio. I have people ask to see samples of my work all the time. Which is only natural. No one buys wedding invitations without being able to see them first. So you see, setting up a handmade wedding invitation business these days is easy!

5 Great Businesses To Start In 2011!

5 Great Businesses To Start In 2011!

2011 is going to bring many new opportunities for low cost and small businesses.

Here are 5 on my ‘preferred list’ of great businesses to start in 2011. If you start any of these businesses, let me know. I’ll be your biggest fan and help you promote.

Let me clarify my critera for a “great” business opportunity. The business must have low risk associated with start up. Start up ‘capital’ required is your repertoire of time, creativity and skills. Combined with the proper “can do” mindset and persevering stamina, you can accomplish business goals online that were never possible before.

Here’s my list of 5 great businesses to start in 2011:

    1) Online Grocery Shopping: We’ve seen a few of these come and go in Portland, Oregon. When I had knee surgery last year, I wondered why.

There are certain elements an online grocery shopping service needs. You should be able to order the same list you ordered previously: If you order your staples once a month, this should be done by auto-purchase.

A smart service would jog memory: “You ordered cleaning supply “X” 3 months ago, do you need more?” Making sure the produce is the best (no bruises on the bananas) would keep moms happy.

    2) Discount Finder: We have Black Fridays and a spectrum of opportunities to get a discount by entering a promotion code at checkout. Can you keep track of all your promotion codes?

Any mother with a purse finds that it becomes a ‘black hole’ of paper slips. What if membership in a service (yes, I would pay for this), alerted you to a discount or promotion code? If your net annual saving substantially exceeded the membership cost, you would join handsdown.

    3) Parking Spot Finder: We have navigation systems in our cars. Being directionally challenged, I have actually named mine “Bossy” because she tells me where to go. Bossy can’t locate available parking spots. If an app could be created to find the best parking spot, especially free ones, I’d be on board.

    4) Organic Foods at Competitive Prices: West Coast living attunes you to organic foods. As a mother, I want the healthiest selections. I prefer to support local growers also. Unfortunately, the costs of local, organic foods creates a battle with my budget. If there could be an online, collective collaboration that would provide delivery, quality products and organic food access, I’d be thrilled.

    5) Family Blogging/Video Inventory. My scrapbooking efforts are stashed in a drawer (for the actual photographs) or in online albums in utter disarray. I need an online service to organize them. Problem solved. Memories preserved. Happy family.

All of these services could best be promoted through social media strategies and internet marketing.

Consider these 5 great business ideas for your new business in 2011.

Let me know what you think. Any others that should be on the list?

There really are many more than 5 great businesses to start in 2011! The most important thing is to get started creating your home business and changing your financial future. Today. To learn more, click on the link, fill out the box and get free, immediate access to training videos, especially #2 and #3, to get started now.

Poor Or Good Economy, Advertising Can Help You Bring In Customers

I understand that a slow cash flow is hard to cope with and the first inclination is to cut out the overhead. Unfortunately, they think of advertising as overhead. Advertising should be the last thing to go especially if you can cut cost and get more leads in the process. Now doesn’t that sound like a win-win?

If you are creative and you know how to make use of whatever materials that are available, you can already create good scrapbooks.

Learning the art of scrapbook making

Starting out a home-based scrapbook making business is easy especially if you are naturally creative and artistic. Locate a good supplier of paper and trinkets in your locality and make sure that you have enough supply of good materials all the time. If you are planning to do a lot of scrapbooks, better buy your materials in bulk and get some discount. How To Start A Successful Craft Business

How To Start A Successful Craft Business

If you have you ever wondered how to start a successful craft business, you need to listen carefully. Homemade craft items have become more and more popular as gifts and home accessories. It doesn’t matter what your craft is, you can start your own successful craft business. Follow this simple guide to learn how to start your own successful craft business.

Who Can Start a Craft Business?

Craft businesses are really popular for moms to work on a part time basis. Most people start a home based craft business as a part time job or for extra income on the side. But a successful craft business is certainly not limited to moms. Anyone with a particular gift or skill can start a successful craft business.

Where Can I Sell My Crafts?

Whatever your skill is, from making candles to holiday ornaments for the Christmas tree, you will need to know where you are going to sell them. If you have smaller priced items, you may want to consider selling them at craft fairs or flea markets. If you have expensive handmade sculptures or heavy items that are very big, selling them at a craft fair might be impossible. Another option to consider would be selling them on the Internet, either on your own website or at an auction website such as Ebay. Finding the right way to market your crafts is important, because if no one sees your crafts, they can’t exactly buy them.

What Are Some Ideas for a Craft Business?

Depending on your particular skills, which I am sure you already know, there are many ideas for craft businesses. Just to mention a few:

    - Candle Making
    - Scrapbooking Business
    - Greeting Card Business
    - Seamstress
    - Homemade Jewelry
    - Soapmaking
    - Furniture Design
    - Gift Basket Business
    - Pottery – Clay Figurines

A thought to consider when starting craft home businesses is that you need to carry a variety of products. For example, if you are making clay figurines, make sure that you have a variety before you beginning selling them. This will make sure that when people visit your booth or website, they can choose from a variety of products, to find exactly what they want.

When pricing your crafts, you’ll need to make sure you’re making a profit. Add the cost of all material used to make your craft, then determine what your time is worth. Add these two together then determine how much profit would make it worth it for your time and effort. Add it all together for the total price.

A successful craft business doesn’t have to be a big business, but it can be if you choose. It may be something that you do for fun or something that earns you a sizeable profit. Remember, the hardest part of anything is getting started, so you must make a commitment to the success of your new business. Always remember, it does take time to establish a business, no matter what kind.

If you are interested in starting a craft home business, there are many to choose from. Visit our craft home business directory for some great ideas for your craft business:

Start a Scrapbooking Business – Perfect for Stay-at-home Moms

Start a Scrapbooking Business – Perfect for Stay-at-home Moms

Scrapbooking is a multi-billion dollar industry and continues to grow. Now is the perfect time to take advatnage of this long lasting trend and start your own online scrapbook store. With hundreds of manufacturers and every imaginable product from paper to totes, where do you start?

    1) The first step is to come up with a plan. You can’t dive head first into this or any business. It requires a strategy to differ yourself from the competition already out there. How will you attract customers? What are you offering that is better or different? How will you retain customers?

    2) After you have your plan on paper, share it with others that have experience starting or running a business. Conduct informal surveys of friends to gauge their opinions. However, take your friend’s opinions with a grain of salt, because most friends will be optimistic. Seek outside opinions and conduct formal surveys of people you don’t know. Gather all the market data, criticism and feedback you can get.

    3) Money, money, money! You need a plan and you need to stick to it. How much are you investing? What are you spending money on? How much will you spend on advertising and marketing?

    4) Where will you get your products? Will you buy wholesale directly from manufacturers? This is a huge capital investment and will require at least ,000 to have an assortment of products. Or will you dropship to save the cost of buying your own inventory. There don’t appear to be many reputable dropship companies shipping scrapbook supplies out there. The only one I can reccomend is Modzy.com. You can learn more about their dropship program by emailing dropship@modzy.com. They offer complete blind shipping or brand labeling on hundreds of products including albums, organization, embellishments, and more.

    5) How will you build your website and store? How will you collect payments? How will you handle customer service and shipping? the next step is to determine the operational logistics of your business.

    6) Away you go! The scrapbook industry has a lot of competition. Make sure you stick to your plan, don’t panic, and constantly re-evaluate your plan if it is not working as well as you would like. Things may be slow at first, but if you plan beforehand, you will be much more likely to achieve success.

Are you the kind of person that finds just the right colors, papers and accessories to make memories last, and do you love to share with others? Are you passionate about scrapbooking, and want to see if you can make income from something you love?

The power of the internet can make your dream come true. You can start an online home based scrapbook business by providing a number of goods or services online. To make money with a home based scrapbook business, you can offer services, such as advisory services, idea newsletters, sale alerts and send these out periodically to your subscribers. Include tips and tricks, offer free how-to publications on scrapbooking, or critique and advice columns. You can even set up your mailings as part of a paid-membership site. If you’re creative and can show others how to do what you do, there is no limit to what you can offer your readers and subscribers. You could also offer to make scrapbooks for others, or help other scrapbook hobbyists enhance their memory books. Display samples of your work online to show your style and product.

If you want to sell scrapbook products, you can either locate a distributor to sell the to you directly, or you can go the easy route and set up an affiliate account to allow you to sell scrapbook products provided by another merchant. For example, you can join an affiliate program for a variety of craft stores carrying scrapbook products. Using their affiliate tools, you can list scrapbook products for sale on your website or in your emails and newsletters. When one of your visitors or members purchase from your craft store merchant, you get a percentage of the sale for he referral. No need for inventory, a storefront or the costs of opening a store – and your market can be world wide!

If you build up to a full website, you might consider offering your own hard goods sold direct, as you find wonderful items to bring to your site visitors. With a website, you can even add demonstration video, audio files such as interviews, discussion groups your members can join and much more. Making a site valuable and content-rich means you’ll build a large and loyal following of people who share your love of scrapbooking.

The best part is that you can start for little or no money. You can join affiliate programs with just an email address, and build a website later when it becomes useful. By posting in scrapbook forums and including a good signature file on your emails, people come to know and visit your site, and buy from you. From there, you can build a mailing list that becomes more valuable as your members grow and know and trust your advice and ideas.

One of the best ways to make cash with a home scrapbooking business is to write an eBook with ideas and how-to tips for readers to purchase from you. Information is a big seller on the Web, and by writing your own eBook, you can sell it from your own website or newsletter, as well as offer it to other internet marketers looking for eBooks to promote. For example, a site such as ClickBank offers a variety of eBooks and other digital information that resellers can promote. You pay them a percentage of the sale and they do all the marketing. It’s perfect for craft business owners who are seeking ways to extend their income while doing something they love.

Today even video and audio files can sell – how-to videos both sold online or in DVD form are big sellers across the Web. As a scrapbook enthusiast, you can sell patterns and other information online too. Is there information you can deliver to others that would make their scrapbook experience better or more fun? Why not publish your own information.

Today there are plenty of Internet based tools to help you put your information, newsletter or even website up online in short order. Building a home based scrapbook business is a perfect topic for a profitable website.

When you build a website based on something you love, it shows. Combining enthusiasm for your work- your passion about it – and offering great ideas and good products to visitors who share your passion and interest can be a lucrative combination that can help you make a home scrapbook business profitable and fun.
