Ideas For Your Scrapbook Design

Ideas For Your Scrapbook Design

Sometimes it’s easy to create a scrapbook out of existing materials. You need to consider the season and occasion when designing a scrapbook. Most scrapbooking supplies stores even sell stickers and die-cut items with a specific theme such as Halloween, Christmas, or Thanksgiving.

But what about for other events like a child’s first step, or one’s trip to an exotic country? What colors should you consider when designing scrapbook pages? What should you consider in creating a scrapbook design?

Ideas for scrapbook are easily available on the internet, if you have the patience to surf hundreds of thousands of web pages showing themes and designs. Some scrappers choose to go it alone and rely on on their imagination to create their pages.

If you have selected the above mentioned method, it will be important to take note of some do’s and don’t's in designing scrapbook pages.

1. Gather all items

By selecting the photos and other material to be used, you can get an idea of how the pages will look. Some items may need to be prepared before mounting, so it will be best to gather everything first for more organization.

2. Create a layout

You can lay the materials on the mounting page, to make sure that everything will fit. There may be a need to get several copies of a particular item, such as a map or brochure, so you can cut it up and paste it on the scrapbook page.

3. Decide on what colors to use

The colors of the page can come from the colors of the photo, or they could complement the photo to make it stand out. The color wheel is used to create a color-combination. There are several tried and tested combinations that you can use to enhance the page’s design. You can use a combination of blue and orange, for example, to highlight a photo, because these two colors complement each other.

One tip is to put dark colors against white, or light colors against black, for easier visibility.

4. If all else fails, there is always help online

As mentioned, you can go online to search for different designs for your scrapbook. There are several websites that offer free downloadable designs that you can just print out and cut.

There are several magazines that you can purchase or read also, to get more ideas regarding page presentation and design.

      Decorating Your Scrapbook

      Decorating Your Scrapbook

Scrapbook is an essential haven for timeless memories. It can record your family history, celebrations and other gatherings. It is sometimes accompanied with journalizing. Through the same, additional memories will be recollected. A scrapbook can last a lifetime if you know what materials to use and what not to.

Parents often resort to scrap booking when they wanted to personalize their photos. Aside from that, scrap booking is also resorted by parents to keep the artworks, cards, letters and other vital stuffs that their children are giving them. Hence, they preserve the memories and materials without getting overwhelmed. With a scrapbook around, you can do away with memorabilia boxes and other hefty packages.

If you are not busy on a weekend, why not create a scrapbook with your children. Doing an activity like the one mentioned will make you closer to them. Aside from that, you are also honing their creativity and art potentials.

Here are the steps to do a scrapbook of your children’s keepsakes:

      1. Create a reduced version of the keepsakes. Paste them on a textured paper or thin mat.

      2. Use ribbons, tassles, paper clips, dried flowers, clippings and other tiny objects to embellish the album.

      3. Also paste a small piece of paper beside the keepsakes and make a short note to describe them. You can also make a message board for your children to write on.

      4. Cut out some letters to be used for the title of the scrapbook. After that you can show the scrapbook to the entire family and reminisce the past.

Scrap booking is not only entertaining and fun to do but also worthy and advantageous. Individuals who are exposing themselves to scrap booking are honing their artistic capabilities. In fact, their works spell sophisticated scrap booking.

Sophisticated scrap booking is doing the thing with elegance, superiority and cleverness. From color combinations, to design, layout and embellishments – everything must complement and blend.

How do you go about sophisticated scrap booking?

      1. Pick materials with classic colors. Examples of which are sepia, black, white, red and navy.

      2. Pile or overlap papers to draw an impact and to make elements interact.

      3. Use straight lines rather than curves and circles. Straight lines make clean and classic aura. If your scrapbook appears too rigid or linear, soften the lines or make a torn edge.

      4. Select photos that will blend naturally with the colors, material and feel of your scrapbook.

      5. Shallow dimensions are preferred. Use embellishments that are not that bulky. Moreover, you can use charms, alphabet tiles, foam tape, laces and tassles to emphasize dimension. Nonetheless, do not overdo it so as to distract the photos.

      6. If the photos have theme or motif, be sure to dress your scrapbook according to the latter. The theme, color and embellishments must add to the beauty of the scrapbook not the contrary.

Speaking of embellishments, one of the most preferred embellishments that artists use is tassles. Tassles are ornaments consist of loose threads, embroidery floss, yarns, straw, raffia or cords. They are not only best for scrap booking but for knitting projects, scarves, bookmarks, pillows, draperies and afghans as well. You can find tassles ubiquitously. Nonetheless, if you desire to do it personally, tassle-making is pretty much easy.

Here are the simple steps in making tassles:

      1. Cut a piece of cardboard based on the size of tassle you want to have.

      2. Wrap a piece of yarn (or any of your desired material) around the cardboard. Cut the yarn at the untied end.

      3. Wrap the long piece of yarn around the tassle. If you are satisfied with the look and style, insert its end (through a needle) to anchor said tassle.

      4. Trim excess ends to give the tassle a clean look.

Now, you have your own version of tassle. You can use it in any art project you have including scrap booking.  Just bear in mind that scrap booking represents the individual personality of the creators. Nonetheless, if you want your own version of several things – you can. You can bend the rules. You can even break them. Its all our bringing out the bet of you and the best of what your personality can give – your piece of idiosyncrasy!

Digital Scrapbooking Wins Over Traditional Scrapbook Lovers

Digital Scrapbooking Wins Over Traditional Scrapbook Lovers

Digital scrapbooking is becoming so popular that even traditional scrapbook enthusiasts are making the switch. Read why so many are learning to scrapbook on the computer and why you should give it a try.

        1. Saves Time

As in all things digital, there are many ways scrapbooking digitally saves you time.

If you’re really lazy or think you can’t even combine two elements without messing something up, you can buy pre-made pages with spaces for your photos and journaling and just drag and drop your pictures onto the page.

Printing your pictures before you put them into your scrapbook pages is no longer necessary. Just download your digital camera pictures to your computer.

No need to spend hours going from one store to another looking for the right color paper to go with your daughter’s Easter dress. Shopping the Web is faster or you can create your own paper. This also eliminates those unwanted 2-year-old tantrums in the paper aisle of the local store.

Everyone I’ve spoken with that’s made the switch to digital says they love how much faster they can complete pages.

        2. Saves Space

For some traditional scrappers, the idea was whoever dies with the most supplies wins. Setting aside a permanent corner, room, basement or annex for your supplies was a way to beat your husband at his game of collecting tools.

On the other hand, the only physical space required for digital scrapbooking is for your computer, scanner and printer. The other “space” requirement is the size of your hard drive in your computer. Digitized images do take a lot of megabytes of drive space, but have you seen the price of hard drives lately? You can get a 500 gigabyte drive (that’s 512000 megabytes) for under 0 these days.

Many digital scrappers also like the fact that printed digital scrapbooks are just like any other book. No bulky pages filled with buttons and ribbons.

        3. Clean and Tidy

With your supplies on the computer, there’s no need to physically sort through all the punches, paper, ribbon or other embellishments you might have lying around. No worries about leaving a project partially done and laying out where kids can spill a soda on it. No need to get supplies out on the dining room table only to put them away later so you can serve dinner. Just click save and don’t leave your computer screen where someone can accidentally delete your work.

Since you don’t have to worry about the hassle of getting supplies out and cleaning up afterwards, you will find many more opportunities to work on your pages than ever before.

        4. Saves Money

You already own a computer, now all you need is the right software. Cost of software such as Adobe Photoshop Elements is – 0.

Digital scrapbook kits usually go for around .00 to .00 and have lots of paper and embellishments included. The equivalent in physical paper and embellishments costs to and are “consumable” meaning once you use them, they are gone. Digital kits can be used over and over to your heart’s content.

Once you learn how to use your digital scrapbooking software, it’s not hard to create your own supplies if you feel adventurous.

Oh, and saves a lot of gas money too since there’s no need to spend hours going from one store to another looking for the right color paper to go with your daughter’s Easter dress.

        5. Waste Proof

This naturally follows number 4 because you can literally re-use any digital scrapbook element as many times as you like. No more buying extra paper to avoid running out of a certain pattern or color. No more keeping piles of leftover paper scraps. Imaging starting each new project with a complete new scrapbook kit. With digital scrapbooking, you can.

        6. Mistake Proof

The most precious items in your scrapbooks are your photos. So why take the chance of butchering them with scissors. With digital scrapbooking, there’s no worry of ruining the only photo you have of Great, Great Grandpa. Scan the photo and make as many copies as you need. Resize and crop as many times as you like. Don’t like it? Back up a few steps with the Undo function or start over.

Ever place a sticker on a page and didn’t quite like it? Oh well, it’s stuck on the page now. Digital scrapbooking allows you to experiment with a multitude of possible combinations until you get it just the way you want.

        7. Photo Manipulation

Restore vintage photos to make them look just like new. Take current photos and purposely make them looked aged. Remove the red eye in that otherwise perfect candid shot. Get rid of ugly facial blemishes (the proverbial pimple in the Prom portrait) or too much sweat making the face glisten. Crop, enlarge, tint, age — there are so many options to make your photos even more attractive, you’ll be absolutely amazed. Photos you thought were hopeless are given new life.

        8. Easier to Share

Ever create a scrapbook page only to duplicate it once again for your mother? Not anymore. In addition to being another time saver, digital scrapbooks can be shared so easily in so many ways. Print multiple copies of your completed books to share with family. Upload pages to your family blog. Email pages to relatives wherever they live. Use the same digital template for multiple photos. Get the idea?

        9. Archival Quality

Remember when everything had to be acid free? First it was the paper, then the sheet protectors, the inks, the glue. Then came all the embellishments. Were they acid free too? Wait a sec…with digital scrapbooking, everything is acid free because there is no ink or glue to mix with your photos. Everything is preserved digitally either on your computer hard drive or on CDs or DVDs. Print as many copies as you need as often as you like. Not only is this archival, but keeping extra copies of your photos digitally either in a fire-proof safe or in a second physical location is the best way to ensure against your keepsakes being destroyed by a disaster such as a fire.

        10. Unlimited Styles

With traditional scrapbooking, you’re limited by whatever paper you can find in your local store or on the Web. Even then, you might find a pattern you like but sometimes the color isn’t quite right.

Not a problem with digital scrapbooking. It’s so easy to adjust the paper color from one hue to another so you can always match your daughter’s Easter dress perfectly.

        11. Trendiest

Scrapbook paper manufacturers use designers to create a new line of products. Then they decide which designs go into production. From there, retail buyers decide how much of the line to carry in their stores. By the time you get around to shopping, you’re lucky if the product is in stock and in the right color.

Digital paper is not limited by any of the above. There’s a multitude of online purveyors of digital scrapbook kits and there’s no waiting for the product to hit the store. New designers don’t have to have a big company behind them to sell their own designs. You get the trendiest designs and they are guaranteed to always be in stock.

        12. Makes Anyone an Expert

So what if your handwriting looks as bad as a doctors prescription. That’s what computer fonts are for…to make you look like a professional calligrapher. But the best part is, there’s no commitment, so if you misspelled a word in your journaling, you’re free to go correct it without damaging your layout. Cropped photos always have perfect edges and text is always straight. Using a computer to scrapbook brings out the real artist inside you when you don’t have to worry about making mistakes.

        13. Flexibility

Try this exercise: Take a piece of pattern paper and attach a photo. Now add some ribbon and some journaling. Now go back to the pattern paper and change it to another style to see if it will look better. Can’t do it? You can when doing it digitally. That’s what layers are for. It’s like making a big Dagwood sandwich and deciding you want relish instead of pickles after the sandwich is already built. With layers, you can change any element on the page at any time.

        14. Professionalism

Sure we like homemade stuff, but if we can make it look professional, it makes us all the more proud we created it. Submit your digital scrapbooks to printers like Viovio to have them professionally printed and bound. Then show everyone how talented you really are.

        15. Versatility

Take any design you like and turn it into just about anything you want. Change the opacity to make it look like vellum. Tweak the colors to add a little more blue or red. Increase the color saturation or decrease it. Change it into anything you desire.

        16. Endless Supplies

Never, ever run out of the letter “S” when using a sticker set again. And always have it in the right size, color and style. With digital scrapbooking, you will never run out of supplies again.

And who knows, maybe you’ll start designing your own paper lines.

        17. Easy on the Furniture

No more hammering eyelets! No more dents in your oak dining table. Enough said.

How to Scrapbook the Easy Way

How to Scrapbook the Easy Way

Many scrapbooking enthusiasts would advice you to start scrapbooking by educating yourself about it. You can search the internet and read craft books or magazines. You can ask assistance from friends who are into this hobby. You would also be advised to look for scrapbooking ideas that would inspire you to start this hobby. After doing all these, then you are confident that you are ready to do it on your own.

Maybe, then maybe not. Perhaps the first thing you should do is not to get overwhelmed by it all. Learning and knowing about scrapbooking ideas can be a mind breaking activity. This is so because too much information is at hand and you may become confused along the way. So what do you have to do to avoid this? The answer is simple; treat scrapbooking as an easy and simple activity that you can do without too much pressure on you.

Make a List and Plan your Activity

Set a time for this activity. You can spend about an hour to do it everyday as long as it is on a regular basis. You can also do it on a weekend to have a few more hours to spare.

Scrapbooking ideas start with the important tools that you need for scrapbooking. Make a list of these items such as an album, photos, scissors, colored papers, glue and colored pens. Try to get pretty embellishments for your scrapbook pages like ribbons, buttons, stickers and stamps. It is better to start with the simple things first so that you won’t be too messy with your work.

Scrapbooking ideas also deal with choosing your theme and applying the appropriate photos. Remember that your photos are the important components of your scrapbooking so make them stand out. Arrange them beautifully and match them with colored paper as your backdrop. Write some notes on the pages to make them more personal for you.

Let your photos do the talking. Anyone who would look into your album would be able to understand what your photos represent. You don’t need to put to many decors around the pages. Just make sure the colors of your photos complement the backdrop of your pages. Simplicity is still one of the best scrapbooking ideas that should be practiced.

          Be Simple but Creative

Many scrapbooking ideas deal with creativity. So be creative but keep it simple. Keep your pages together by complementing the colors and designs of your photos and decors. Go by feel and if you like how it looks then it certainly would look good to anyone else who sees it, too. Your scrapbooking is a reflection of you so make the effort to make it as your original work of art.

Scrapbooking is supposed to be a happy activity and you are collecting treasured memories of your life. Just keep in mind important scrapbooking ideas which you think are effective, practical and convenient for you to do. Having said that, make scrapbooking a part of your life and you will be happy that you did.

Tools And Supplies You Need To Make A Scrapbook

Tools And Supplies You Need To Make A Scrapbook

The first thing you need to know about making a scrapbook is that it isn’t a complicated process at all. Scrapbooking isn’t just for the ‘crafty’ person among us either. In fact, you don’t need to have any ‘crafting’ skills at all, in order to create a scrapbook of memories that will last for generations to come.

Scrapbooking is a way to take those photographs, and things that hold special meaning, out from the standard, and (yawn) boring photo albums, and the boxes where they are being stored, to add personality to and truly capture the ‘essence’ of what these mean to you.

There are so many books, DVD’s, software programs, scrapbook stores, and internet sites dedicated to scrapbooking that anyone can do it. In books, and DVD’s about scrapbooking you will find  ideas and tips on how to create personalized pages for your scrapbook, some even have patterns that are easily copied for use in the designing of your scrapbook. Most software programs have templates built into them for a fast and simple way to decorate your scrapbook. Scrapbook stores, online and off, and web sites for scrapbooking are all good resources to find design ideas for your scrapbook as well as the supplies you will need to complete your project. You will even find information on how best to join or bind your personal pages together once you have created them to make a lasting keepsake that you will cherish. With such a wealth of information, materials, supplies, and services available today: it is no wonder that scrapbooking has become so popular, and fun for so many.

Some of the unique supplies available for you to use in making a scrapbook and that also helps to make this such an easy and enjoyable activity for so many include items such as:

            •Stickers
            •Pre-Filled Labels
            •Patterns
            •Stencils
            •Serrated- Scissors
            •Designer Papers
            •Glitter Pens
            •Cut-outs
            •Ribbons
            •Buttons
            •Binders

Making a scrapbook of memories doesn’t have to be an expensive endeavor either. You can find many of these things at discounted prices and you may already have some of these items around the house, in the kids craft box for example. Scrapbook making is especially fun for children. Let them get out the construction paper and cut out picture from magazines or old greeting cards to glue on their very own special pages. Encourage them to be creative using markers, crayons, glitter pens, stencils, buttons, small pieces of fabric, or whatever else you can come up with together. You can punch holes in the pages that they create and then let them loop the pages together with ribbon or yarn. This is an activity that will keep the kids busy for long periods of time and is also an activity that you can enjoy right along with them.

Once you have all constructed your own unique scrapbooks, you can share them with one another to get a different perspective on old photographs and memories. Recall the memories of the events displayed in your scrapbooks and share love, laughter, and life-lessons with each other.

It is time to bring those pictures and mementos that hold such precious memories, out from the confines of drab albums and dark boxes, so that they can be displayed in a manner that best represents their full meaning to you and those you share these treasure books with. Create your keepsake treasure by making a scrapbook today!

              Avoid Over-Cluttering Your Scrapbook

              Avoid Over-Cluttering Your Scrapbook

Scrapbooking is a wonderful and creative means to be able to preserve memories and share them with other people. To make a scrapbook, one should be able to create a visual and tactile delight by showcasing photographs along with other “scraps” or bits and pieces of something that when put together tells a complete story of that particular slice of life depicted in the particular photo.

For instance, a photograph of a person hardly tells a story especially if the photo has no other particular merits or characteristics other than it containing a face. Creatively making a layout of it in a scrapbook allows you to tell the story behind the photograph. By adding other elements from different mediums, you can explain the photograph and the memory behind it without using something as blatant as actual statements.

The challenge of scrapbooking is in being able to utilize various elements to enhance a photograph while being limited to a finite area. Sometimes, in our zeal to tell a story, we tend to clutter and create a busy layout for our scrapbook. While there is no right or wrong way to layout a scrapbook, it may be important to note that sometimes, less is more.

Perhaps it is important to remember that when we do scrapbooking, the inclusion of “scraps” or other creative elements into a layout is done to enhance a photo and tell a story that the photograph simply cannot do on its own. Our layout of the elements we incorporate however should not take away from the photograph. Remember that they are there only to improve its capacity to convey a thought or memory and not steal the show entirely.

This means that although there are no set rules in scrapbooking, it may be a good guideline to maintain a clean and simple layout for scrapbook projects. Although it is easy to get lost in the project and with all the items and “scraps” commercially available for use in scrapbooking endeavors, we must always keep in mind that a clean and simple layout may be more manageable to create and maintain.

By a clean and simple scrapbooking layout, we don’t mean that you necessarily use less materials resulting in a Spartan like or anemic look to your scrapbook pages. A clean and simple scrapbooking layout simply means that you incorporate more synergy and symmetry in your layout instead of a haphazard collection of images, textures and colors.

The look and feel of a scrapbook is subjective to the viewer, which makes it even more important to maintain a clean and simple layout in scrapbooking. What looks like creativity to you may look too chaotic to another. This is why, being guided by trying to achieve a clean and simple scrapbooking layout is a good way to ensure that your scrapbook and memories can be easily shared and enjoyed by yourself along with your friends and loved ones. A clean and simple layout for scrapbooking cannot be achieved by curtailing creativity. Instead, more creativity should be exercised so that you can craft a better visual layout.

If however you are new to scrapbooking or you may not be sure about what clean and simple scrapbooking layouts mean, you can use ready made scrapbook layouts or use a software for scrapbooks. You don’t necessarily have to convert your scrapbooks into digital forms but you are sure to be able to get wonderful ideas from these computer layouts.

4 Tips On How To Add Some Pizzazz To Your Disney Scrapbook

Adding some pizzazz to your Disney Scrapbook need not be a hard thing just some creative thought. With these four tips you will be well on your way to creating a stunning Disney Scrapbook

Tip Number 1 – Create It Yourself

Create your own unique stencil or mask. Choose a design or character that you love and draw or trace it onto a piece of clear acetate or thick cardboard. Then carefully cut the design out, be sure that when you are cutting you are keeping the edges smooth. When you have finished cutting the design out push out the image and there you have it your own personal stencil. Use spray or acrylic paint, dye or ink to transfer the image onto your layout.

Tip Number 2 – Print and Stick

By printing letters straight onto adhesive backed paper you can take all the hard work out of adhering hand-cut letters and titles to your Disney layout. Once the letters or titles have been printed, cut them out as per usual by peeling off the backing and stick the letters directly on your layout. You can purchase adhesive backed papers or labels from computer stores or stationery stores and they come in a large selection of sizes and colors’.

Tip Number 3 – Print and Scratch

Transfers are a great way to add some detail to your pages, you can create your own rub-ons and use them over and over again! You just need transparency paper, an inkjet printer and a popsicle stick and you are on your way. Insert the transparency into your inkjet printer, so that it prints on the smooth side of the transparency, have the text/image you want to have as a rub on ready to print from your computer. Format your printer settings so that it is set to print on “plain paper”, “best quality” and “mirror image” (the image needs to be reversed especially if you are printing text or it will appear backwards). And then print. Let it dry for about 3-5 minutes, careful not to touch it. Place the transparency smooth side down onto your Disney scrapbook page precisely where you want the image/text to appear, holding firmly in place, and rub with a popsicle stick just like you would any other rub on. Don’t be afraid to push to hard, and make sure you rub the entire image. Carefully take away the transparency and let ink completely dry before touching. Use a damp cloth or paper towel to clean off your transparency to prepare it for your next rub-on, you can re-use the transparency over and over and over again.

Tip Number 4 – Cutting costs

How to Make a Beautiful Disney Vacation Scrapbook

How to Make a Beautiful Disney Vacation Scrapbook

Scrap-booking is a popular hobby among women, teens and girls these days.  Sometimes, even boys and men also like to get involved in simple scrapbook styles or collections of photo albums.  There are some great places to find great scrap-booking supplies including online and at many discount or craft stores.  For some girls, their favorite theme is Disney Princesses.  There are even some women who are utterly obsessed with Disneyland and it’s princess contemporaries and want to make scrapbooks of their Disneyland escapades and Disney vacations.

The first place to start with your Disney princess scrapbook is the book itself.  Ask yourself, do you want a 3 ring binder with archival page protectors in it or do you want a special vintage or new archival album.  Archival means that it is acid free and that the paper or plastic will not eat through your paper or document.  You will want to make sure that you have acid free glue, tape, stickers and any other items you use in your Disney album should be archival or acid free.

Now, what should you put in your album?  Disneyland photos with your favorite princess and dressed as she is, tickets, pins, souvenirs, and photos with princesses would be perfect for your album or binder.  You can make each souvenir be part of the design to make it extra special.  Sometimes even napkins, menus, autograph items and other things are fun additions for your Disney princess scrapbook pages.  Many people like to type up memories

Next organize your princess items into groups.  One group for each page.  For example, if you want photos, pins and a placard on one page, put that in a group with your matching scrapbooking papers and other embellishments like stamps, stencils, markers and other items.  Page protectors help you keep your pages organized and neat and ready for you to complete your princess pages in your own time.

You can also make an extra copy and file it away with other heirlooms.

Great ways to display your new Disney princess scrapbook are to put it in a visible location.  Scrapbooks make great coffee table books and discussion pieces, especially if it is in a beautifully decorated notebook or binder.  Scrapbooks can be a good conversation starter as lots of people like to get ideas and find good places to go.  Most everyone loves Disneyland and your scrapbook can help tell the story of your vacation or other event in your life.  It is also fun to do scrapbooks of your kids lives, births, blessings, christenings, school years, and other themed books.  Whether it is princesses or pirates, your kids and you will enjoy looking at your scrapbook for years to come.  They may even be passed from generation to generation some day!

A Handmade Scrapbook Easily Created to Commemorate Special Events and Give as Gifts

You went to a special event or party and took a lot of photos but what are you going to do with them now? If you are like most people, you’ll view the photos on your computer or from the envelope that they came in and that will be the end of it. They will be filed away never to be seen again.

That is a shame. I know, because I have boxes and boxes of pictures that are rarely seen because it’s too difficult to get at them. Conversely, I also have several scrapbooks that are just a joy to look at. To me, they are heirlooms that I can’t even put a price on.

The idea of putting my photos into a handmade scrapbook came to me after I attended a certain event and several people asked me for copies of my pictures. I didn’t want to just hand these people a packet a random pictures because this event deserved special treatment. It was special and so I wanted to showcase the pictures in a special way. It wasn’t enough to just give them pictures. I wanted to have words with the pictures.

Although handmade scrapbooks take a lot of time to make, they can not be beaten for quality and uniqueness. I started with that first special event and have made several books since then including the two shown below. Follow the steps below to make your own:

                    To Make a Handmade Scrapbook:

Mount prints on 8-1/2 x 11 white card stock. In addition to the prints and card stock, I recommend getting a paper cutter and a corner rounder. The paper cutter allows you to precisely cut your photos and card stock to size, and the corner rounder is really nice for shaping the corners of your photographs.

I usually put my prints in chronological order first, crop them to size, round the corners (personal preference) and then mount them with glue sticks.

In addition to the photo pages, adding a one page family tree or an itinerary page can really help tell the story. My scrapbooks usually end up being 20-40 pages with 3 to 5 pictures on each page.

Put words to the pictures. After all the pictures are mounted onto the card stock scrapbook pages, I bring them to my computer and simply go through each page and type into a blank Word document the captions for each picture.

When I began making these books, I purchased a disk of really cool fonts called “The Best of Creative Lettering” from my favorite scrapbook magazine, “Creating Keepsakes Magazine.” If you want a great scrapbooking resource, this magazine is it!

After the captions are in the Word document, I print them, and mount each one by the appropriate picture using glue sticks.

Embellish the pages. Now that the pictures and captions are mounted, I dress up the pages with memorabilia, such as, golf score cards and ticket stubs, and I add stickers to limit the amount of white space. Don’t use metallic stickers as they do not copy well.

Copy, laminate and coil. The cheapest way to make copies of your original pages is to go to a copy place, like Kinkos or Reprographics, and make the color copies yourself (bring your own cardstock). It’s more expensive, but they will do it for you if you prefer.

This is one of the main reasons that I make these books. You can make as many copies as you like of the original and everybody gets a copy of their own to take home. You can’t do that with scrapbooks made in those big, fancy albums.

To make the scrapbooks more durable, I laminate the front and back covers. The books will hold up longer and look nicer. Lastly, the books need to be bound. I like to use the black coil type because they hold up well and look really nice.

I spend a lot of time and energy creating these handmade scrapbooks. When I give someone one of these special gifts and see their expression, it truly warms my heart and makes it all worthwhile.
